Nystatin (liquid, tablet and capsule)

nye-sta-tin

What does it do?

Nystatin is used to treat and prevent fungal infections (thrush) in the mouth, throat and gut.

Before you start

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.

How should you take it?

Take nystatin regularly as directed. Keep taking it until the course is finished, or for two days after your symptoms have stopped.
Liquid: Shake the bottle, then measure the liquid carefully with the dropper. Swirl the liquid around your mouth for as long as possible before swallowing. Do not eat or drink for 30 minutes after each dose. This will stop the medicine being washed away too quickly.
Tablets or capsules: Take with a glass of water.

What if you forget a dose?

If it is nearly time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the usual time. Otherwise, take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Do not take two doses at the same time.

Can you take other medicines?

Tell your pharmacist or doctor about all medicines or treatments that you may be taking, including vitamins, herbal products or recreational drugs.
